Each child is entitled to 15 hours per week of free entitlement for 38 weeks of each academic year.
Little Acorns offers the free entitlement in 6 x 2.5 hour sessions per week. Currently the free entitlement operates within the context of three terms a year:
| Terms 1 & 2 | September to December | Autumn |
| Terms 3 & 4 | January to March | Spring |
| Terms 5 & 6 | April to July | Summer |
In Kent the free entitlement can only be claimed during term time and is not available during school holidays or bank holidays.
As free entitlement is for 38 weeks a year and the school year is 39, then as a nursery who are open longer than 38 weeks, an additional cost may be incurred for the days not covered by the free entitlement.
